Modules for a family terrace

Solar panels for your home in Chennai.

ZeroEB matches the modules to your bill, your roof, and the heat this city actually puts on them. The count is decided on site, not from a brochure wattage.

Solar modules laid out on a residential terrace in Chennai

Start with the house

A home array is not a small commercial plant.

Choosing modules for a Chennai house starts with the roof you already use. There is usually a water tank, a drying line, and a wall that shades one corner after mid-afternoon. The clear patch left after those is the real area. A higher-watt module fills that patch with fewer pieces. A lower-watt module needs more rows, and more rows can block the walkway.

The other number is the electricity bill. Monthly units decide how much generation is worth paying for. Two air conditioners do not automatically mean two kilowatts. We explain that sizing in how capacity is actually decided.

What to compare

Four lines on the datasheet that matter here.

Colour is a weak clue. A black frame can sit on an ordinary module. Read are darker modules better? if a quote is selling shade instead of specification.

01

Wattage

Higher wattage means fewer modules for the same plant. That matters when the terrace is already tight.

02

Heat

Output falls as the glass heats up. Ask for the temperature coefficient. A May afternoon in this city is the test, not a lab flash test.

03

Warranty

Look at the 25-year performance warranty and whether the brand can actually be reached in India. A long promise with no service desk is paper.

04

DCR

If you want the subsidy, the cells and modules must be made in India. Eligible homes can receive up to ₹78,000. Amount and approval follow current scheme rules.

Price versus assistance

The cheaper module line can cost the subsidy.

NDCR modules are often cheaper per watt because the cells are imported. They are the wrong choice if you still want central assistance. Once a non-DCR application is confirmed, that choice cannot be reopened. The plain version is in NDCR vs DCR.

How the array is fixed, waterproofed, and wired is a different page: fitting the modules on the terrace. How those modules become daytime electricity, with the EB line still in place, is solar power for a Chennai home. This page is only the choice of module for the house.

Questions, answered

Before you pick a brand from a photograph.

How many modules does a typical house need?

From monthly units and clear roof, after a visit. A higher-watt module needs fewer pieces on a small terrace.

Does a darker module produce more here?

No. Compare wattage, efficiency, temperature coefficient, and warranty. Heat matters more than frame colour.

Do I need Indian-made modules for the subsidy?

Yes, if you want up to ₹78,000 in central assistance. The modules must be DCR. Amount and approval follow current scheme rules.

Can we still use the terrace?

On most houses the array is raised so you can walk, dry clothes, and reach the tank. Height is agreed at the survey.
